Navigating the Digital Maze of Modern Connections
Have you ever noticed how a single online comment can affect our attitude or negatively
impact a friendship? In this research, I look at the root causes of a modern issue: how our friendships are changing in an environment dominated by social media and digital technology.
Using Jonathan Haidt's social media insights, this study will investigate how platforms might intensify emotions and change the longevity of our relationships. Furthermore, by reflecting on the viewpoints in 'How Harmful Is Social Media?' and 'This Friendship Has Been Digitized,' I want to recognize the platforms' dual nature as both connections and dividers.
In a world when likes, comments, and rapid communications are the norm, this changing
of friendships interests me. My own experiences and observations have led me to wonder how our online interactions impact with, and sometimes even overwhelm, our real-life connections. The investigation is not only personal. As digital platforms keep entering every aspect of daily life throughout the world, they are redefining what it means to be friends in the modern era. My investigation will center on the interaction of social media, technology, and relationships between people, the focus of my research will be observing and analyzing current friendship dynamics as they play out in the world of technology.
In addition, inspired by Emma Pattee's 'How to Have Close Friendships,' I intend to investigate the tactics and practices that might create deeper ties in the digital age, contrasting them with traditional friendship conventions as advised by writers such as Amy Tan.
The goal is to discover how we can keep our friendships deep and honest in an age where digital interactions frequently outweigh face-to-face encounters. This study aims to find a
balance, helping us in navigating our digital lives without losing the core of true friendship.
