Informative Speech Outline Topic : Kinesthetic Learners Specific purpose : After hearing my presentation, the audience will be informed on who and what kinesthetic learners are. Introduction : I. Do you know what kinesthesia is? Kinesthesia is the knowledge of where parts of the body are and how they move. II. Kinesthesia is what builds a kinesthetic learner which is somebody that links the process of learning to physical activity. III. If all of us were to learn our learning styles, it would be much easier for everyone to grasp new information and be sure that it stays within the core of memory. IV. Taking an EMT class has only solidified that my personal learning style is kinesthetic, simply because the best way for me to remember is to act and practice it out. V. The i mportance of understanding one’s learning style comes down to what kinesthetic learning is, characteristics of kinesthetic learners, and benefits of kinesthetic learning! I would first like to define some terms and what exactly it is that we will be talking about
Body : I. Kinesthetic learning is a style of which requires one to “do it yourself”. A. In this case, a person learns best with feeling and moving. 1. As Bay Atlantic University (2022) says, kinesthetic learners tend to get bored and can’t focus long on a traditional lecture so utilizing activities like surveys, experiments, and interactive work keeps focus. 2. Giving kinesthetic learners a physical game to play with income, loss, and profits: they would much better be able to comprehend economics versus listening to a lecture ( Helping Kinesthetic learners Thrive 2022). B. This learning style tackles three main learning styles of the VARK model. 1. Since kinesthetics is very hands on, students utilize visual, auditory, and reading/writing methods altogether ( 4 Different Learning Styles 2021). 2. The learning style includes demonstrations, simulations, as well as practice and application ( The Vark Modalities 2023). Now that there is an understanding of what kinesthetic learning is, we can discuss the characteristics of these learners. II. As visual and auditory learners, kinesthetic learners have commonly similar characteristics. A. Often, those in kinesthetics do not like to sit still and tend to move quite a bit.
1. Kinesthetic students move a lot while they study and prefer to participate when learning ( Characteristics of Learning Styles 2021). 2. Students have “a tendency to fidget or move around while learning” ( Kinaesthetic Learning 2023). B. Another similarity is that most of these learners tend to lack skills that are from other aspects of VARK. 1. These types of learners also lack skill in spelling and listening ( Characteristics of Visual Auditory and Kinesthetic Learners ). 2. Kinesthetic learners never seem to go by the books or instructions but find their way hands on (Dartmouth 2024). Moving towards the final point, it may be relevant to ask yourself, what are the benefits for those who choose kinesthetic? III. In comparison to the different learning methods, kinesthetic type of learning comes with many benefits. A. Kinesthetic learning is proven to be the most effective, especially when it comes to children. 1. This method utilizes both motor and cognitive development in the brain (Krzychu 2021). 2. Researchers agree that students do well when they are taught actively, giving them more ability to understand information better (Culp et al. 2020).
