Visit the following websites and learn about the TPACK and SAMR models for technology integration. Discuss each of the steps and comment on your experiences with these two models. Are you familiar with them? Discuss the similarities and the differences in their steps.
Have you ever used one of these models to design a lesson for your students? Describe in detail the specific steps
you followed, your experiences in the process, and the outcomes of the lesson. If you haven't developed a lesson using one of these models, describe a lesson that you currently use in your classroom and how would you adapt it following the steps of one of the two models. You will have to mention each of the steps of
the model you selected.
Finally, use the GALILEO database, Google Scholar, the Internet, and/or any other resources to locate a published research that used either the TPACK or SAMR models to integrate technology, and discuss the objectives, process, and outcomes of the research.
Digital tools alone do not improve students' education. Educators have to apply the technology in meaningful ways. Technology, pedagogical, and content knowledge or TPACK is a technology integration framework that combines these three factors. It was designed to guide how to successfully understand and integrate technology into the classroom effectively. The goal
though is to enhance student learning with technology by making sure the tasks are enhancing student learning experiences. Substitution, augmentation, modification and redefinition or SAMR is a model to follow to integrate technology into the classroom. The steps are not
linear and can be taken out of order. Substitution and augmentation are when technology serves as an enhancement tool and modification and redefinition involve technology as a transformation tool. Some lessons will need all four components but some may not.
In my 1st grade classroom I probably utilize substitution from the SAMR model the most when planning lessons. During reading and math centers my students do a mixture of technology games/lessons in addition to
small group instruction and working with tangible, hands-on math activities or manipulatives. This mixture meets the needs of my diverse group of learners. My students also do a lot of self led digital research on PebbleGo.com. I feel like I also use modifications a fair amount. I use a lot of online resources with the “read to me” options.
The TPACK model can be used to support students in ESL/EFL (English as a foreign language) classrooms. The model was used along with language
teaching methods and activities to bring technology into these classrooms. This combination is successful because it promotes the ability to communicate to the students. Students have to use skills to participate in the activities so it also serves as motivation to learn English (Gante, 2023).
