Sample Informative Speech Outline/Template Preparation Outline: Informative Speech on Dallas Cowboys’ Super Bowl championships of the 1990s Specific Purpose : The purpose of my speech is to inform my college speech class about the Dallas Cowboys’ Super Bowl championships of the 1990s. Thesis : After listening to my speech, each person in my audience should be informed about Super Bowl XXVII, Super Bowl XXVIII, and Super Bowl XXX as each game relates to the Dallas Cowboys. ( Should include topic and all main points ) Introduction I. The Super Bowl is both an American sporting event and tradition. It is of value to me because I grew up in Northeast Texas as a Dallas Cowboys fan. (Personal Credibility ) In addition to being a fan, I researched this topic extensively by consulting sources such as DallasCowboys.com, NFL.com, and The Dallas Morning News. ( Professional Credibility) II. Along with the N.F.L. record for the most Super Bowl appearances (8), the organization is tied with only two other N.F.L. teams for having the most Super Bowl wins (5). The Dallas Cowboys became the first team in N.F.L. history to win three Super Bowls in only four years. The Cowboys' success and popularity has earned them the nickname "America's Team.” ( Reasons to Listen/Relevance/Importance ) Transition 1 : Let’s start with the Cowboys first Super Bowl win in 1993. Body I. The Dallas Cowboys won Super Bowl XXVII. A. In 1993, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Buffalo Bills. B. The Bills had nine turnovers, which led to 35 points scored by the Cowboys. C. Troy Aikman passed for 273 yards and four touchdowns. D. The final score was 52-17 and Troy Aikman was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. Transition 2 : Now that I have told you about the Cowboy’s first Super Bowl win over the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVII, let’s discuss the second win the following year in Super Bowl XXVIII. II. The Dallas Cowboys won Super Bowl XXVIII. A. In 1994, the Dallas Cowboys once again defeated the Buffalo Bills. B. At the half, the Cowboys trailed the Bills 13 -6. C. Running back Emmitt Smith rushed for 132 yards and scored two touchdowns. D. The final score was 30-13 and Emmitt Smith was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.

Transition 3 : After winning back-to-back Super Bowl titles in Super Bowls XXVII and XXVIII, the Cowboys went on to win Super Bowl XXX. III. The Dallas Cowboys won Super Bowl XXX. A. In 1996, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers. B. The Cowboys scored on their first three possessions. C. Cornerback Larry Brown had two interceptions and 77 yards. D. The final score was 27-17 and Larry Brown was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. Conclusion I. After defeating the Buffalo Bills two consecutive years, the Dallas Cowboys went on to win a third Super Bowl to be the first team in N.F.L history to win three Super Bowls in only four years. ( Overview/Reiteration for emphasis ) II. Dallas Cowboys fans all across the nation can only hope that the franchise will continue to be successful in futures decades.
