Mariana Quintana January 31, 2024 PRESCHOOL FLOOR PLAN
The learning environment I designed is for a Preschool Classroom. The physical environment is arranged into learning centers using the furniture to define each area. The areas that I included are: Library, Cozy Corner, Discovery, Blocks, Dramatic Play, Music and Movement, Sand and Water, Art Center, Computers, Manipulatives and Math, and Writing. It is designed to support a variety of learning styles as well as to accommodate to diverse learners. Some other accommodations for diverse learners are the cozy corner for the children that need to take a break, the tables and furniture have enough distance for children with wheelchairs to be able to move around. For English Language learners I provided labels in their language as well as visual cues for them to follow. The furniture is arranged in a way where the children can be always visible. There are spaces where children can work in small and large groups as well as spaces where they can play alone. The materials and toys are developmentally appropriate as well as linguistically and culturally relevant. The materials are labeled with the picture of the item and the name of it in English, Spanish, and Creole. The visual materials like the daily schedule, classroom rules, job duties, and other posters posted around the classroom are posted in the different languages as well. They are at children’s level so that the children can see them. The classroom is painted a light yellow and the windows are open to bring in the natural light. The Habit of Mind I used for this assignment was persisting. I had some challenges doing the floor plan on the Kaplan website and had a few moments of frustration, but I persisted and continued trying until I figured it out and completed it. It took me almost 3 hours to complete.
