Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools have become increasingly prominent in educational settings, offering a wide variety of functionalities to enhance teaching, and learning experience. As a future educator, artificial intelligence has been both enlightening and intriguing. I personally do not see the issue with allowing students to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) as long as the students are using it properly and they are taught the correct way to use it. In this reflection
I will go in depth about some of the benefits of using AI in schools. I will also discuss some of the disadvantages. How can the use of these tools be used to extend and enrich student learning?
The use of AI tools in education offers numerous opportunities to extend and enrich student learning in various ways. There are so many ways, so I am going to describe a few. Immediate Feedback
AI tools can provide immediate feedback to students on their performance, allowing them
to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses in real time.
Personalized Learning
AI tools can analyze a student’s individual data and adapt learning materials to cater to each student’s learning needs and preferences. This personalized approach ensures that students receive target instruction and support.
Access to Resources
AI tools can recommend educational resources, including articles, videos., and interactive
simulations based on students’ learning objectives and preferences. This access to a wide range of high-quality resources enriches students’ learning experiences and promotes independent exploration and discovery.
What ethical concerns do we have in K-12 in using these tools?
In K-12 education, the use of AI raises several ethical concerns that educators, administrators, and parents need to consider carefully. There are many concerns pertaining to the
use of AI but this one in particular really stood out to me. Privacy and Data Security
AI tools often rely on collecting and analyzing large amounts of student’s data to personalize learning experiences. However, there are concerns about how this data is collected, stored, and used, particularly regarding student privacy and data security. There is a risk that sensitive student information can be exposed or misused leading to privacy breaches, or worse identity theft. How can teachers effectively monitor the use of these tools in the classroom?
Effectively monitoring the use of AI tools in a classroom requires a combination of initiative-taking strategies and ongoing vigilance. Here are some ways teachers can monitor and manage the use of these tools.
Clear Guidelines and Expectations
Establish clear guidelines and expectations for the use of AI tools in the classroom. Communicate to students the acceptable ways to use these tools.
Active Supervision
Actively monitor students’ use of AI tools during class activities and assignments. Circulate around the classroom, observe students’ interactions with the technology, and intervene
if any misuse or unethical behavior is observed.
