The teacher sits down with the children at whole group in the morning and have the conversation with the students. I work with preschoolers. We are to first talk about the active members in the school. What they did and what they remember about them. Then the teacher is to say the words death, die, or dying (Addressing Grief: Tips for Teachers and Administrators, n.d.) happened to the member. Teacher is to use the words death, die, or dying (Addressing Grief: Tips for Teachers and Administrators, n.d.) for the students to really understand that the person is gone. The teacher must make sure they are not confusing the children. If they are saying the person just went away that could be confusing for little kids. Teachers are to be blunt about it. If the children are expecting this person to come all the time and then they do not show up the student have to know why. If students are having a hard time understanding or really upset the teacher can send the teacher to the school social worker, counseling (Perspectives, 2021). The teacher is to be flexible with the students (Perspectives, 2021). Death is a big traumatic thing to really understand. That why teachers are really to explain what death is and have the students understand. References Addressing Grief: tips for teachers and administrators . (n.d.). During the whole group I would introduce the student to the students. Let the new student say hi and maybe say something about themselves. Then do a dance, Then the teacher would sit down the students and talk about the classroom expectations (Stand 4 Kind, 2023). The teacher would express to the students that they are to show the new friend the rules that are expected out of us. If a student sees the new friend off task so kindly redirect them to what the class is doing. The teacher would talk about each expectation (Stand 4 Kind, 2023) of the class. We keep our eyes on the teacher. Teacher asks the students “Why do we keep our eyes on the teacher?” The students respond because we are learning, and the teacher is teaching us. The teacher would talk about Keeping our hands and feet to ourselves. Teacher would ask “Why do we keep our hands and feet to ourselves?” Students would respond because we don’t want to bother anyone from learning. Eyes are Listening and raise your hand if you have a question.
During recess the teacher sees the new student being bullied by another student. The teacher would go over to the student who is being bullied (What’s the Difference Between Conflict and Bullying? n.d.) and take them away from the situation. The teacher would talk to the student being bullied and redirect them to someone else. When the class comes inside the class would sit down on the carpet and the teacher would talk to the students about bullying (6. Talk About Bullying | preventingbullying.promoteprevent.org, n.d.). The teacher is to ask does anyone know what Bullying is. The teacher is to give the students wait time. Then the teacher calls on students to answer. The teacher can also write down the definition on an anchor chart while they are discussing what bullying is. The student answers when someone is hitting other children. Then another student says when someone is yelling at another student. The teacher then can read a book about Bullying. The teacher can stop throughout the book and ask questions about the story on bullying. Then at the end of the book they discuss the book. If we see a friend bullying, what should we do, the teacher can ask? The students would say tell the teacher or walk away. The teacher is not to point out any child who is bullying. I mean if it was a big issue like violently hurting them of course. Otherwise discussing with the class is so much better. The teacher and the class are learning, and the teacher discusses with the class how they can control bullying. Reference 6. Talk about bullying | preventingbullying.promoteprevent.org.
