GRA 280 Module Four Activity Template
1. Describe the target audience
for the advertisement. Consider the following details in your response:
What are the target demographics and attitudes? The target demographic includes both small children and health conscious, frugal parents of those small children.
What types of food are they likely to prefer? They are likely to prefer foods like chicken nuggets,
fingers, fast food, not overly spicy foods, frozen yogurt, and foods that aren’t too saucy or unhealthy.
Which visual components, like color, layout, and images, are they likely to prefer in the advertisement? Kids are likely to prefer vibrant colors, illustrations, cartoons, and fun looking mascots. Parents are more interested in including prices and nutritional values, and clean looking designs that are easy to read.
What informational expectations do they have from the advertisement? Parents want to see the
nutrition facts, prices, and types of cuisine served on the advertisement.
2. Analyze the audience's responses to the given advertisement. Consider the following details in your response:
How did the audience respond to different visual elements in the advertisement such as images,
colors, and fonts? The kids liked the illustrative font of the ad but didn’t like how it was missing cartoons or other illustrations. The parents were concerned that the food looked too spicy, hot, and saucy for kids. They also didn’t like that the ad didn’t include prices or types of cuisine. They also mentioned the ad was too cluttered and the font is hard to read.
What was the overall effectiveness of the advertisement in communicating the key message? The advertisement was not effective in communicating the key message since they didn’t attract the target audience based on their preferences.
3. Identify areas of improvement
in the given advertisement based on the responses of the target audience. Justify your answers using information from the target audience response and target market preferences and expectations. Consider the following details in your response:
How would you highlight relevant information (e.g., menu options, ease of consumption, nutritional value, the price list, etc.)? I would include types of cuisine served with a more detailed description underneath in a smaller but still legible font. For example, I would list the most popular menu items, and their nutritional values underneath to give parents the impression that the food is generally healthy and safe for their kids. I would also list a price range on the advertisement. For example, “Prices starting from $4!”, or “All meals under $12!”. This is because parents seem to be more frugal. I also would avoid advertising “hot” food since kids usually don’t like hot or overly spiced foods.
How can you improve the use of illustrations or photographic images? I would also include cute illustrations of food rather that photography to appeal to the kids, or possibly a funny looking cartoon mascot. Different menu items could be turned into illustrations, like chicken fingers or frozen yogurt. Illustrations of the food truck itself could also be added. Kids would be more drawn to cartoons and illustrations, making them a better choice over photography.
How can visual features like mascots, banners, or stickers be incorporated? A mascot for the food truck park could be a cute animal, for example a cow, mouse, bird, etc. They could be included next to the header font to draw kids’ attention the most. The mascot should have exaggerated features and look fun and goofy.
How would you ensure effective use of relevant colors and legible fonts? Relevant colors should be used throughout the advertisement to bring it all together, so colors like red, yellow, and green could be incorporated since these colors are commonly associated with food. Legible fonts would need to include sans serif fonts, but still keeping the letters bold and bright to attract kids.
