Questions:
1.
What are the main points/claims/arguments made by the speaker about strategic communication
? How does the speaker argue about the ways strategic communications can be used by all to excel in everyday life? What important key factors and/or methods must we consider?
The speaker argues that strategic communication can be interpreted as “what you say is just as important as how you say it” (Brewer 00:36-00:40). It can also be used to excel in everyday life because it can help us apply shared values or viewpoints to create
mutually beneficial situations. We must consider that communicating with purpose helps
to achieve a goal in an organization. We must do research on shared viewpoints and values the parties have. We have to use those common perspectives to achieve our common goals.
2. What are ways in which this speaker is utilizing ethos (credibility), logos (logic), and pathos (emotional appeal) to convey these main points/claims? Was the speaker effective
or ineffective
in persuading its a
udience of the main claims / ideas? WHY? WHY NOT? (*Please refer to specific examples within the video.)
This speaker used ethos when she shared her experience about her role as a communications specialist and CEO of PR Alliance LLC. She uses her history in that field to prove that she knows how to use strategic communications. When the speaker stated “I know this is a lot on your first day” (Brewer 2:25-2:28), she is making a point to prove that she used credibility to handle a hard task. T
his speaker used pathos when she shared her story about her friend Jessica when she suggested that Jessica find shard values with the guy. For instance, the speaker suggested Jessica to connect with the guy over their shared love of music. This speaker used logos when she demonstrated the four steps of using strategic communication to provide a framework on how strategic communications can be used to acheive a goal. This example helps the audience understand the principles. The speaker was effective because she uses her personal examples to demonstrate the four steps of strategic communication.

. How would you describe the video’s style? (Consider: ·Visuals; ·Word choice—
formal, conversational, or slang; ·Voice—real, rather than artificial or pretentious; ·Tone
—your attitude and relationship with the reader) What are the ways in which these elements conveys the overall messages/arguments?
The video’s style is conversational. For instance, the speaker mentioned her goal in the workplace is to “shoot her shot” (Brewer 2:48-2:50). She is conveying her overall feeling
about completing a hard task that the audience can understand. The speaker uses the statement: “I get a dm from my friend Jessica” (Brewer 3:22-3:24). The phrase “dm” in this context expresses the conversational style. In her personal story about her friend Jessica, the speaker’s goal is to find Jessica a boyfriend. She advised Jessica to access the guy’s account to find out his values. The speaker’s personal situation with Jessica expresses her methodology. Those examples emphasize the conversational and casual style that the speaker shared throughout the video. She uses a more authentic voice when she said “I need a raise” Brewer 5:30-5:40) because she realiized
her value to the company. She is also excited about her new partnership with Google. These elements convey the overall message that strategic communication is effective and accessible to everyone.
