Introduction
Growing up I never liked school, in fact I at one point I said I would never step foot into a school again. It wasn’t till a few years after graduating when the pandemic hit and I lost my job that I had a change in heart and values. I have always loved working with children, but it wasn't till 2020 when I discovered my passion for working with children who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities. I became a Registered Behavior Technician at Reach Educational Services and fell in love with the special education field. I then moved to a public school setting and have been working as a paraprofessional the last two years. Over the past two years working closely with intervention specialists is what truly sparked my interest to further my education and go back to school so that I can continue to make a difference in the lives of children. I would saying seeing the difference I was able to make in children’s life has been my biggest influence. I plan to be an Intervention specialist in the elementary age group. Beliefs about Teaching and Learning
My role as an Intervention specialist is to provide constant support, patience and resources that will help make school feel a little more manageable for my students. I value flexibility and creativity in providing alternative tools and skills to help my students succeed. I also value connection and being a safe space for my students. My hopes and goals as a future
intervention specialist is to create an environment in which students can feel safe, accepted, and calm as well as thrive in. What are your beliefs about teaching and learning? What do you believe your primary role is as a teacher, and why? Will it be knowledge transmission? Guiding students towards discovering knowledge on their own?
Beliefs about Students
I believe the students I will have in my classroom come with a store of knowledge, that knowledge is based on intuition, everyday experience, as well as what they have been taught in other settings. What do you believe about how students are motivated?
What will your expectations be for their progress? What will your relationship with you students look like?
Beliefs about Knowledge
What knowledge is most important for students to learn? (facts, skills, self-
knowledge, etc.)
How will you grade/evaluate this knowledge?
Five Modern Philosophical Approaches
Out of the five modern philosophical approaches towards teaching, which aligns most with your views about teaching? Is your philosophy a mixture of 2 or 3 orientations? Why is this the case?
