A couple of newer members of the group were hesitant to share and seemed to feel uncomfortable. I shared group rules to reinforce safety, honesty and support. MSW FIELD EDUCATION Process Recording Template GROUPS 2 M2.2.2, M2.2.3, AS2.2.4 Most members identified triggers freely and shared the thoughts they were having before and after a trigger. Theme was one of willingness to learn but struggling with feelings that hurts and angry responses were justified Describe any challenging group dynamics and your assessment of these dynamics. When Bob and Mary defended each other, other group members became frustrated and would stop talking. Bob and Mary have the potential to side track the group with their agenda. What group member roles did you see played out? (e.g. silent member, dominating, clown , peacemake r, etc. Bob and Mary wanted to dominate to not have to face their issues. Jim tended to get quiet the quickest. Peter at times tried to be the peacemaker and take on more of the facilitator role. I would intervene when this occurred. What was accomplished and/or what results occurred during this meeting? Many members learned about triggers and responded positively to the content of the material. Although Bob and Mary s behavior was inappropriate, other members could see that it was unhelpful and it reinforced their desire to change. Linkages Content / Description What were some key actions you took? Why? What did you do well during this meeting? What skills, tools or interventions did you use that were successful? I presented to material well, using the white board to explain terms and walk members through the CBT model of anger. I used facilitation skills to respond to members feelings, ask questions and summarize responses. I helped establish group expectations by revisiting group rules and redirecting members to the rules when going off track. What did not go well during this meeting ? Describe what you could have done differently. Describe how you could you have been more effective. Bob and Mary s behavior at times derailed others from being able to share honestly. It created at antagonistic atmosphere at times. I could have been clearer with Bob and Mary earlier in the meeting regarding the group rules and why these where important to follow. I also could have asked the group how they were feeling about Bob and Mary s view of the material. I could have used the issue more as a teaching opportunity to explore the pros and cons of the A.B.C model verses Bob and Mary s approach to their anger.
