"Cross-national evidence of negativity bias in psychophysiological reactions to news" by Stuart Soroka, Patrick Fournier, and Lilach Nir 1. Identify the author's main idea, argument, or thesis.
In “Cross-national evidence of a negativity bias in psychological reactions to news, the author describes how people of all cultures react to negative news negatively while each culture has a limit to their negativity, everyone is different. As a change the author advocates for more positiveness. 2. Identify the author’s line of reasoning including by identifying the claims used to build
the argument and the connections between them.
The article starts off by addressing the psychology behind the brain, He says that people tend to take in more negative information rather than positive. The researchers use this information to address the gap between individuals' factors like religion. The researchers found that the tendency of negative bias is most commonly found in areas like the media industry and or natural instinct to listen to negative news more focused than positive news. 3. Evaluate the effectiveness of the evidence the author uses to support the claims made in the argument.
A study from 17 nations states that all people no matter culture react negatively to negative news. This ends with everyone being responsive to and accepting more positive content. The credibility of the author’s study is really accurate since they used answers from over 17 countries. This shows the level of seriousness of their actions because of their determination to gather correct information. Topic Reflection
: Detail your thoughts, reactions or connections with the text. Yes, you may agree and/or disagree with the premise or connect to your own experiences and observations of others/culture. I agree with the author's research. I believe the author’s research is accurate due to the mass amount of information collected from various sources/countries. I totally believe some actions are related to cultures. As an Indian there are some things that I just can do or agree with. End of Course Exam Reflection
: Now that you have practiced the three part AP Seminar End of Course rhetorical process through the first handful of texts you’ve interacted with, what aspects do you feel confident about, as well as what aspects you
feel you have to improve upon? Areas to consider commenting on might very well be the expectation to identity the specific argument when identifying the writer’s argument (part 1), the expectation to elaborate on how one claim builds to the next when delineating the line of reasoning (part 2), and/or the expectation to critique the degree of
effectiveness of a variety of evidence the writer employs (part 3).
I feel confident in my ability to find examples that support the claim. Though next time I will write more because this and last time I kept everything sweet and short. I can also improve my ability to analyze further, maybe try writing with confidence.
