Week 9 Discussion: PROCESS EVALUATION PURPOSE AND TIMING

Identify the process evaluation article that you chose and explain why you selected this example. I decided to examine the process assessment piece about the parenting program for South African low-income families. I chose this article because my parents were raised in low-income homes, and I have friends who were raised in low-income families to which I can identify. This article matches some similarities with some of the difficulties and concerns raised in the evaluation and in real life.
This article piqued my interest since it provides important information about the various, ongoing issues—such as abuse and neglect—that result from low-income households' unstable circumstances (Lachman and associates,2018.) I felt drawn to this narrative because I ultimately want to work with low-income families and help children who have been abused in some way.

Describe the purpose of the evaluation, the informants, the questions asked, and the results of
the evaluation.
In Cape Town, South Africa, low-income families with school-age children were the target population for the evaluation, which sought to determine how effective a parenting program conducted by community facilitators was in reducing the likelihood of child abuse (Lachman et al., 2018).
Sixty-eight parents who were enrolled in the program were informants. The informants were asked a variety of questions, such as, "Could you describe how you used parenting skills last week at home?" Prior to each session, these questions were posed in keeping with the particular
skill being addressed. The parenting program is effective in South Africa, based on the findings, particularly when it is incorporated into a setting that is culturally appropriate (Lachman et al., 2018).

Identify the stage of program implementation in which the evaluation was conducted. The evaluation happened while the twelve shorter sessions of the parenting program were being
implemented. Parents were evaluated throughout these sessions based on how they handled the concerns that were brought up, and facilitators would step in as needed. Parents participated in role-playing different scenarios and applying the facilitator's suggestions over the nearly three hours of each session (Lachman et al., 2018).

Consider why the researchers chose to evaluate at that stage of program implementation. What kind of information would they have received if they had conducted the evaluation earlier or later? Because every scenario has a different set of problems and potential solutions, researchers probably decided to analyze at this point. Evaluations at each scenario offer a wide range of information, highlighting particular problems. If the review had been conducted later, it might have been too much for the facilitators, and the real events might not have been accurately captured on tape. Individual assessments provide more in-depth information, enabling a complex analysis of the program's efficacy.
5.
If you were to replicate the study, would you adjust it in any way for more optimal results?
I would extend the study to ensure that the parenting approaches were ongoing and beneficial. To ensure participation and keep families interested, I would reduce the number of informants and speed up the sessions. Shorter studies may produce the greatest findings and accurate information.
