MAJOR ASSESSMENT #2 2 Part I. Planning Your Lesson Supporting All Learners 1. Throughout my lesson, I encouraged my students to be patient and take their time with the graphic organizer. I listened attentively to their needs and focused on sharing the story "Max's good habits," repeating important points as needed. When a student had difficulty memorizing while reading, I sat down with them and read the story together. I also provided translation assistance for a student whose first language was Spanish. Max’s good habit. K5 Learning. (n.d.) Differentiation 2. When preparing for my lesson in Mrs. Simpson's class, I already knew which students required extra assistance. To provide support, I found it helpful to group students based on their readiness levels or to complement each other, which is a way to achieve differentiated learning. It's important to consider the classroom environment as well since it affects learning. Making physical changes to the classroom, such as adjusting the desk arrangement or seating students away from the window to avoid distractions, can also be helpful. English as a Second Language Learners 3. My goal is to assist students who are learning English as a second language by encouraging them to express their knowledge. This is known as "academic language," and while some learners acquire it naturally over time, many students, including native English speakers, require reinforcement to develop this skill. Also Use explicit vocabulary instruction to help DLL children learn new words. I supported children's language learning by repeating and modeling new words, emphasizing words like "regular," "parents," "reading," "magazine," and "project." 4. Part II. Implementation of Instruction Concepts of Literacy During class, I used PowerPoint and presented on the smart board. The board had a translation device for two ESL students who spoke Spanish. I also utilized the "k5learning" website to display the story in Spanish. I gave clear directions and began the lesson using the smart board. A translator was available for Spanish speakers, and an English second language tutor was available for extra assistance. I focused on reading "Max's Good Habits" and answering questions. One ESAL student responded by practicing reading every day to become a good reader. Student responded by practicing reading every day to become a good reader. 5. Components of Literacy One of the evidence-based strategies I used was group discussion and sharing ideas out loud. This allowed students to brainstorm with a friend and gather ideas from their classmates, which helped them think of things they may not have thought of on their own. To track progress and understanding, I will analyze notes I keep in my notebook. Additionally, I will note whether or not the lesson I presented was effective and identify ways to improve it to better help all students. Part III. Assessment 6.
