Some advantages for caregivers to better understand their children at a young age includes newly formed development of independence, identity, and self-esteem. Independence is formed by experiences from a child’s younger years through teenage years. Caregivers can benefit from understanding how a child’s independence grows. During this stage, a young child is trying to navigate their surroundings with new ideas, physical developments, cognitive progression, and social experiences.
All these factors combine to develop a steady growth from childhood to adulthood. Independence is a new concept of a child’s mind, and at this stage exploration is important.
Advantages for caregivers to understand their child during preschool and middle school years include building a trusting relationship with their child. Understanding your child’s development through experiences, actions, and conversations can lead to building a solid foundation that the child can rely on and feel comfortable around. A caregiver can help provide valuable information and emotional support by knowing how to communicate with their child, and what the child needs in order to grow in a healthy,
positive environment.
Out of the multiple development factors listed, I found that cognitive development to be the most important. Even though all factors are considered essential to the development of humans, I think the most prevalent factor would have to be cognitive. Cognitive development requires the ability to problem-solve, create new ideas, reasoning, and retain new information. The ability to process new information allows humans, especially children to form new connections and from their own thoughts and ideals. Cognitive development is vital due to it is importance in everyday life and the potential to learn passed previous data collected. A child that has a high development in cognitive functions can remember, connect, and theorize based on information and experiences.
