TEACHING SELF-EVALUATION DO91- INTRODUCTIONS TO CURRICULUM, INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT KELSEY CONKLIN 3
B. R eflect on your recorded presentation from part A by doing the following: Description 1. Describe the lesson segment presentation objectively. Include the following details: -your use of instructional strategies that were implemented -your use of resources and technology -your body language, speech, and interactions -the actions and speech of other participants I started off my lesson with an introduction video on what money is and how it they use it to buy things by using YouTube and a smart TV. Once the video was over, I went into a discussion to gage what my students already knew about money. I introduced each coin and dollar bill and how much each3 is worth. I was calm and collected and had students asking questions. I did have a few students get distracted and were trying to “buy” things, but I was able to grab their attention using an attention getter and continued the lesson. Feelings 2. Describe how you felt before, during, and after the presentation and how you think the audience members felt during the presentation. I felt great going into the lesson. I knew what I wanted to do and had a plan of execution for it. I was able to keep the students engaged because I was excited about showing them the lesson. Once I completed, I double checked the plan to make sure I was not missing anything and allowed the students to ask any questions that they may have. The students were getting a grasp on the money and what its used for and how it is added or subtracted. I felt good ending the lesson. I felt confident that my students learned something that they may not have been familiar with. Evaluation 3. Evaluate your presentation and teaching style. My lesson went very well. My students were engaged and asking questions. They were also able to recognize all the bills and coins and what they are worth. Students seemed to enjoy, and I did not have any that lost focus or looked to be daydreaming. I think I would add a modified version where students get to use the money in a “play Store” with a partner. This would give them firsthand real-life experiences right in the classroom. Analysis 4. Explain why you think the presentation unfolded as it did, including an analysis of the parts of the presentation that worked well and those that did not. The presentation unfolded as it did because I instruct students for my job, so I am used to being in front of students and explaining things to them. I used what I already knew from my past experiences to go forward with the lesson. The lesson was a success because I went over the lesson multiple times before teaching it, so I knew what needed to be taught and I was not fumbling around trying to remember or figure out what I was supposed to be doing. I did have to use my attention getters when I passed out the money because the students got excited about the money, but I was able to redirect them and continue with the lesson. Conclusion 5. Explain what you learned about teaching in general from this experience and what you learned about your teaching style specifically.
