Report
Stormi Ortiz EDU-315 June 10, 2023 Dr. Sherry Huckaby Kindergarten Communication Plan We the teachers at Coleman ISD have developed a Communication Plan to ensure that the needs of both the parents and teachers are met promptly and respectfully. We strive to provide and build a secure atmosphere and make communication our upmost priority. We must become aware of different communication styles that are appropriate for each of our students’ families here at Coleman ISD. While our district utilizes Class Dojo as our primary contact method, we are aware that not all families have access to the internet to receive our correspondence; therefore, we are open to knowing your personalized preference in order to stay up to date on your child as well as our school. On Meet the Teacher Night, each parent will be talked to individually to discuss different options that they have in order to receive our school correspondence. Parents will be sent home with a “Student Information Sheet,” this will allow parents to identify their preferred method of contact. Once this document is completed, we recommend it be sent back to school for the primary teacher to upload the information accordingly. If at any time the preferred method of contact needs to be changed, it is important that the parent reach out to the teacher prior to the change, or at their earliest convenience. While we may have a small school, we take pride in the work we do inside and outside of our district. We take the ability we all possess to make sure that our students and their families have the upmost best experience in their learning and future endeavors. While it is very imperative that the Student Information Sheet be completed and returned to the teacher for classroom updates and information about students, it is also how we will be discussing Classroom Activities and Events. As a district, we believe that Parent Involvement is vital to the students’ educational journey and creates a sense of excitement for the students. We highly recommend that parents volunteer in our classroom and field trip adventures, this will show our students how we are creating our classroom family, and all the dimensions that apply to it. During our year, we plan to ask for involvement in many things, a few of those are Cooking Lessons in our classroom to assist with learning our measurements. Also, involvement with our Zoo Trip is a necessity; we take the time to work with our young students to learn about the different animals as well their habitats. Lastly, we ask for assistance with our trip to the local grocery store. This allows us to be involved with the community, learn about produce and money management. When parents volunteer and participate in activities in the classroom, this allows the parents to become involved in the academic success of their student, as well as help the student strive for success. Nonetheless, we want to guarantee our parents that the student is
receiving a good education but also having fun on the journey. While the help of parents is imperative to their student, it is allowing for a significant help to our district; we show this in our yearly test scores from the knowledge and dedication of our students from the help of their families. We together can work side by side to build a supportive, respectful, and safe learning environment for our children to grow and engage with not only their peers, but teachers, staff and their families. Communication Methods Class Dojo: We utilize Class Dojo as an online platform to share pictures, ask questions, get answers to questions and to learn how you can help your student with the information they learned during the day. Classroom Newsletter: This will be sent home weekly to keep families informed and up to date on all the fun things we have going on in our classroom. This will also allow for parent involvement on student assignments and projects to ensure parents can help at home. In Person Conference: To ensure the privacy of our families and their student, you are able to verbally request a conference at drop off, or walk in during our conference period (10:30am- 11:30am).
