Discuss how accommodations can serve as a pre-referral intervention and provide two examples of accommodations you might commonly make prior to referring the student to a child study team. In replies to peers, provide additional examples of accommodations that have not already been discussed. Good morning Professor Pearlman and class, The difference between modifications and accommodations is that modifications change the way content is received or tested for comprehension and accommodations do not change the content
the student is expected to learn. By documenting the use of accommodations and a students progress or lack of progress a student may be referred for special education services if the accommodations are not enough to support the students learning needs. Teachers and other school personnel may implement accommodations such as extended time or small group instruction. These accommodations may be enough to help a student stay at grade level or catch up to grade level without the need for further interventions. If accommodations are not enough to guide the student, the student’s team may make special education recommendations based on data collected through use of accommodations. Thank you, Holly
