SCS 100 Module Five Activity Template Replace the bracketed text below with your responses. Support your responses with specific details and examples from your advertisements. You do not need to conduct outside research, but if you use sources, cite them using APA style. Revise your research question that addresses at least one of your chosen advertisements. How do advertisements on mainstream media and social platforms impact the way consumers make their decisions? Explain how social science perspectives could be used to process information. People will always be looking for something to invest their time and money on. Companies are continuously attempting to develop products and services for those consumers to buy. Scientists can conduct research within the population and the different communities to gather data on consumer interests and financial status. This could help a company focus on a specific product and target a specific group of people. This would be a sociological perspective approach to consumer behavior. Describe how the answer to your research question might impact others. We all know that we live in a world where advertisement is everywhere and comes in different shapes and forms. You can watch a 1 hour show on television and 25 minutes of it will be commercials with advertisements. Many people know that the advertisements are aimed at getting you to do something; buy something, watch something, or go somewhere. The thing that they might not know is how effective they are at getting you to do what they want. Advertisements are geared at target audiences. They are repetitive because they want to drill their idea in your brain. They try to connect with the consumer emotionally and unconsciously. It is like subliminal messaging. For instance, the Burger King commercial talks about burgers and the fact that the company realizes that because of their massive business, they are a major contributor to the climate issue. They tell the viewer that through research, they have found a solution to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas they put in the air. This would make a consumer feel pretty good that one of their favorite places to eat is taking an initiative to do better. This could get more people to come out to Burger King and eat their reduced methane burger because it is made by livestock on a different diet than their competitors. My research question can help you look deeper at what the advertisements are doing and how it impacts the way you spend your money. 1
