Respond to at least two of the following questions. Why are static routes a necessity in modern networks? What is the drawback to using static routes in your network? Pick a specific network topology; explain how a packet travels from source to destination as if you are giving driving directions to a friend. Which commands would help you s olve a static route problem Review other student posts and respond to at least two student posts providing additional details, enhancements and substance. Why are static routes a necessity in modern networks? Static routes can still be useful in modern networks. They are useful to smaller networks that only need a couple paths. For example, in a smaller network that only has 2 routers and/or 2-3 other routes, it may be easier to use static routes. It also provides more security at any size network. This can be useful to larger networks for certain types of traffic to other networks that need more control. It can reduce the number of advertised routes or create a backup route incase primary route fails [1]. What is the drawback to using static routes in your network? Although using stating routes can be useful at times, its use can also have drawbacks. Its configuration and maintenance can be time-consuming, configuration can be error-prone, administrator intervention is needed when changing route information, scalability becomes complicated, and knowledge of the whole network is needed for proper implementation [1]. For these reasons, static routes are most beneficial to smaller networks that do not need many routes and do not plan to grow much or for backup routes.
