INT 220 Module 8 Discussion Post In your initial post, address the following: What is your career goal? What topics and skills covered in this course do you think will help you the most in your future career, and why? Do you think that any of the credentials from this module's resources could be worth pursuing for your career goal? Why or why not? My career goal is to finish my Bachelor’s of Science with a concentration in Program Management, and continue to perform my current role as an Operations Manager for Johns Hopkins University. I work for a small department under the Whiting School of Engineering and while I’m content with my current role, it’s always nice to make more money doing something you do well. In completing my degree, I will be eligible for up to a $20k raise in pay. This will allow me more financial independence and my husband, who is five years older than I am, to retire earlier than he originally planned. Additionally, I want to obtain my degree because it’s something my parents always wanted for me. Directly out of high school I went to college for three years, but quit once I met my first husband to be a stay-at-home wife and mother. A few years later I was divorced with a child to support and no degree. My parents sacrificed a lot for me to attend college for three years, and I would really like to make sure their sacrifice was for the ultimate goal of me obtaining my degree. Of the five of us-my parents and my three siblings- only my sister graduated with her undergraduate. I’d like to be the second person in my immediate family to do so, even if I won’t complete my undergraduate degree until my mid-fifties. So all that being said, I don’t ever see myself entering into the global business world. I found the class interesting and insightful. The subject matter made me think of concepts outside of my own little corner of academia and it gave me perspective on what skills some of my professional acquaintances must have in order to operate globally, but it won’t relate to my current position or at any point in my future career. By the time I finish my degree, I’ll have less than 10 years to work before I retire. Select at least one of the following questions to guide your responses to a minimum of two peers: Compare and contrast the topics and skills you and your peers found to be the most helpful for your respective career goals, noting why there may be similarities or differences. If you identified credentials similar to those that your peers identified, share some of the reasons why you think the credentials could be beneficial to your careers, as well as some important requirements you'll need to keep in mind while working toward them.
