Khadeisjh Dailey FCS 330 Chapter 3 Assignment September 13, 2015 The chapter states that if caregivers see three or four children as their own special charge, then they can promote a stronger attachment whether than it being left up to caregivers to relate to the whole group without differentiation. It also states how important it is to create a system of teams so that there is always a familiar adult present if the primary caregiver is absent. When things are running smoothly, caregivers are able to interact with children other than their special charges. It is very important for children to have these kinds of guidelines to get them through the things they may be going through. I think that having a primary caregiver system helps children to grow and develop positive relationships with their caregivers. I have observed in the infant room on several occasions were primary-caregiver systems are being used. On the first day of lab we as the lab students were introduced to the infants and teachers. Some of the infants smiled as we can in while others looked at us as if we frighten them. The primary teacher told us about each baby and how it takes some a little time to get use to us while others flung to us. The primary teacher would say to the infants these are some new friends that want to play with you and learn more about you. Some of the infants jumped for joy. I believe that the primary caregiver used the system well because she made the children feel a little more comfortable about us being around them and that they are still safe with familiar faces. The second thing I observed was when I was in the infant room trying to feed a six month baby girl some cereal. The six months old was very hungry and the teachers had said that she would let anyone feed her so I had volunteered to do it. As I began to feed her, the baby began to cry out with rage. I stopped and asked I’m I doing something wrong. The teachers informed me that I was doing nothing wrong and that the baby probably did not want to eat because of the change up of mixing her food with water to milk had occurred. So I attempted once more to try to soothe the infant while trying to feed her again. She began to cry once more and the primary caregiver stepped in and soothes the child and then she began to eat. It wasn’t that I was doing anything wrong, but that the baby wasn’t use to me feeding her. She had wanted a familiar face to give it to her. The third time I observed was when I was in the infant room trying to feed infants that are normally breastfeed babies. I had started soothing the child by letting him know that his bottle was right here. The baby just looked at me and as I put the bottle in his mouth, he would not suck it for nothing. So I asked the primary caregiver for tips on how they get him to eat. She had told me that sometimes you have to move the nipple in a circular motion for them to start sucking. So I began doing that and the baby started sucking the bottle with no problem. I believe that the primary care givers at Delta State University are doing an excellent job with the infants. I don’t believe that their need to be any changes made to the infant room in order to increase the interactions. The children are responding well to them and to new faces that they come in to contact with. The primary caregivers have their own set of charges and still have time for the other children as well. They treat all the children the same and try to encourage them in
