ITS 270 Homework 7 Please put Course number, your Full Name, Assignment number on top right. Submit your homework on Blackboard Learn using file name as “ITS270HW7FirstNameLastName.(doc, docx)”. Any failure to do so will result in deduction. Please show all your work for full credit. 1. Explain how LAN reduce the broadcast traffics. (5 points) Stations (host, server, etc.) could move anywhere without changing IP address. Within the switched network, VLANs provide segmentation and organizational flexibility. Group switch ports and assign them into logically defined communities of interest. 2. Briefly discuss the advantages of VLAN. (5 points) Security Improve performance Improve manageability Flexible Make it simple Easier fault management 3. Briefly discuss the “VLAN Trunking” and explain why it is important in VLAN configuration. (5 points) Switch can distinguish traffic from different broadcast domains Forwarding decision is based on VLANS Between switches, BLAN information should be carried with packet to maintain the proper segregation. This process is called VLAN “Trunking” 4. Discuss the difference between access port and trunk port. (5 points) The access port belongs to and carries the traffic of only one VLAN and provides the access to end station which does ot need to understand the VLAN. A trunk port carries the traffic of multiple VLANs at a time and used to connect switches to other switches or to the routers if necessary. This port support tagged and untagged traffic. 5. Briefly discuss the purpose of frame tagging in VLAN. What are the two types of Frame tagging? (5 points) The purpose of frame tagging in VLAN is that it is used to transmits message between switches containing VLAN information. VLAN Tag, helps networks send the data packets, First switch adds tag, Last switch removes tag. 6. Discuss the difference between 802.1Q and ISL. (5 points) 802.1Q Supports: port based, MAC address based Uses VLAN tags 4-bytes of VLAN tag is added in frame ISL Enable VLANs across a switched network backbone Cisco proprietary ISL header is adding to encrypted original data 7. Consider below network configuration where PC A is in VLAN 10 and PC B is in VLAN 20 and the transmission from PC A to B.
PC A PC B Router MAC address 00D0.5849.CBCA 0040.0B53.99C9 000A.F356.9601 IP address 192.1698.10.5 192.168.20.10 192.168.10.1 192.168.20.1 a. What are the source and destination of IP and MAC addresses of the packet PC A transmitting? (5 points) MAC address IP address Source Destination Source Destination 00D0.5849.CBC A (PC-A) 000A.F356.9601 (Router) 192.1698.10.5 (PC-A) 192.168.20.10 (PC-B) b. What are the source and destination of IP and MAC addresses of the packet PC B receiving? (5 points) MAC address IP address Source Destination Source Destination 000A.F356.9601 (Router) 0040.0B53.99C9 (PC-B) 192.1698.10.5 (PC-A) 192.168.20.10 (PC-B) 8. Consider the network configuration shown below and VLAN information shown below. Switch 1: Vlan 10, Vlan 20 Switch 2: Vlan 10, Vlan 20 Switch 3: Vlan 10, Vlan 20
