Understanding by Design (UBD) Lesson Plan Template Stage 1-Desired Results (Objective) Content Standard: GELDS: CLL7.4a: With prompting and support, recognizes and names some uppercase/lowercase letters of the alphabet. Understandings (Nouns): uppercase/lowercase letters, alphabet Essential Q/I Can: I can recognize and name some uppercase/lowercase letters of the alphabet with prompting and support. Learning Objective: At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name some uppercase/lowercase letters of the alphabet with prompting and support. Stage 2-Evidence (Assessment) Assessment (Verbs): recognizes and names Assessment Description: Putting the alphabet in order game Stage 3-Learning Plan (Teaching) Instruction (launch, Instruction, GP, IP, Closure): Launch: I will start by pulling all the kids to the rug. Then I will let them know that we will be playing a game together. This will get them excited and keep them engaged. Instruction: I will pull up the online game that we will be playing onto the smart board. ( https://www.abcya.com/games/alphabet ) At the beginning of the game, all of the letters fall off of their spots and shuffle onto the ground. The children will each take turns grabbing and moving each letter until we get them back in order. Guided Practice: This entire lesson is considered guided because these children still need prompting and support. I will be helping each child with the letters to place them back in order correct order they go in. Independent Practice: This lesson does not include and independent practice, per say, but the students are expected to participate in getting up and coming to the board independently to move their letter. Closure: Once the game has been completed and all the letters of the alphabet are back in order, we will all sing the alphabet song while I am pointing at each letter of the alphabet. Differentiation: Differentiation in this setting is more about realistic expectations and helping students succeed. I will be making sure to keep this group time short, for attention span purposes. I am also encouraging movement, which keeps the children engaged.
