2 Topic Description: Within the 1950s-1960s Black activists used the radio to get messages to their allies in order to form meeting places, rallies, and spread information. This was particularly important for the Civil Rights Movement and many other political movements during this time. My topic will be diving deeper into the ways in which the radio helped empower these minority groups within this time and how it was a crucial media form in the fight towards equality. Research Question: “How did the use of the radio empower minority groups leading up to the Civil Rights Movement?”
