Climate Change Exercise Student Template
Dr. Bruce Dubendorff
Answer the following questions from the Climate Change Exercise in the green, underlined, and bolded
spaces
.
Section 1: Average Earth's Temperature
The first graph of What's Really Warming the World?
shows the Observed Average Earth's Temperature Anomaly.
Graph 1: Observed
Q1) How would you describe the Observed Average Earth's Temperature Anomaly from 1880 to 2004 in terms of increasing, remaining the same, or decreasing?
. It is gradually increasing .
Q2) Using your eye and finger break the Observed graph into quarters. For each quarter determine if you think the temperature anomaly is increasing significantly, increasing slightly, not changing, decreasing slightly, or decreasing significantly.
1st quarter (on left): . slight decrease .
2nd quarter: . slight increase .
3rd quarter: . not changing .
4th quarter (on right): . significant increase .
Section 2: Natural Factors
The second through fifth graphs of What's Really Warming the World? show the Observed Average Earth's Temperature versus the 3 models of Natural Factors as well as the three Natural Factors Combined. Graph 2: Orbital Changes
Q3) How would you describe the Orbital Changes Average Earth's Temperature Anomaly for the entire graph in terms of increasing, remaining the same, or decreasing?
. The orbital change remains about the same as the temperature increases .
Q4) Do you think that Orbital Changes model explains the Observed Temperature Anomaly? Why or why not?
. No, because the orbital change is remaining the same .
Graph 3: Solar
Q5) How would you describe the Solar Average Earth's Temperature Anomaly for the entire graph in terms of increasing, remaining the same, or decreasing?
. The solar average has stayed remotely the same but he temperature has increased. .
Q6) Do you think that Solar model explains the Observed Temperature Anomaly? Why or why not?
. No, because solar average remains the same .
Graph 4: Volcanic
Q7) How would you describe the Volcanic Average Earth's Temperature Anomaly for the entire graph in terms of increasing, remaining the same, or decreasing?
. The volcanic average has slightly decreased. .
Q8) Do you think that Volcanic model explains the Observed Temperature Anomaly? Why or why not?
. No, because the volcanic average has decreased .
Graph 5: Natural Factors - Orbital Changes, Solar, and Volcanic combines together
Q9) How would you describe the Natural Factors Average Earth's Temperature Anomaly for the entire graph in terms of increasing, remaining the same, or decreasing?
. Natural factors have stayed the same with large dips .
Q10) Do you think that Natural Factors model explains the Observed Temperature Anomaly? Why or
why not?
. No, because the temperature climbs while the natural factors stay the same .
Section 3: Human Factors
The sixth through tenth graphs of What's Really Warming the World?
show the Observed Average Earth's Temperature versus the
4 models of Human Factors as well as the four Natural Factors Combined. Graph 6: Land Use
Q11) How would you describe the Land Use Average Earth's Temperature Anomaly for the entire graph in terms of increasing, remaining the same, or decreasing?
. The land use average has decreased .
Q12) Do you think that Land Use model explains the Observed Temperature Anomaly? Why or why not?
. No, because the temp has increased and the land use decreased .
Graph 7: Ozone
Q13) How would you describe the Ozone Average Earth's Temperature Anomaly for the entire graph in terms of increasing, remaining the same, or decreasing?
. The ozone average has slightly increased .
Q14) Do you think that Ozone model explains the Observed Temperature Anomaly? Why or why not?
. No, because the temperature average has climbed faster than the ozone average .
Graph 8: Aerosols

A summer camp offers a morning session and an afternoon session. The list morningList contains the names of all children attending the morning session, and the list afternoonList contains the names of all children attending the afternoon session. Only children who attend both sessions eat lunch at the camp. The camp director wants to create lunchList, which will contain the names of children attending both sessions. The following code segment is intended to create lunchList, which is initially empty. It uses the procedure IsFound (list, name), which returns true if name is found in list and returns false otherwise.
