This reflection activity is comprised of two sections, collectively totaling a minimum of 500 words. Complete your reflections by responding to all prompts. Motivation in the Workplace Describe a workplace situation in which you felt motivated to accomplish a task. What aspects of the organization and its vision helped you to feel motivated? Have you ever experienced a time when you felt unmotivated in a workplace situation? What aspects of the situation do you think caused you to feel that way, and how could changes in the organization’s vision have improved the situation? Elements of Organizational Culture Explain the importance of an organization’s mission, vision, psychological climate, values, and ethics and how they relate to its strategies. How should these elements shape the organizational culture and develop the culture for change? Provide a specific example to illustrate your explanation.
Competency 1 - Reflection Years ago I was tasked with helping to create a more organized sales approach for recruiting new personal training clients that could be implemented and learned by any of the personal trainers at my company. My manager and I sat and we brainstormed methods we had used in the past and how the methods had failed or succeeded in the past. Our main incentive for this new sales method and the accompanying skill training came from an upcoming sales competition. The training team that got the most sales for an event would receive jackets, a bonus and other incentives. When it came to feeling rewarded and motivated when working towards our monthly sales goals, there were rarely any motivating factors outside of a minor commission added to a paycheck. However, larger events like this, with other factors and rewards, went a long way in creating more motivation and excitement when it came to increasing our knowledge and sales promise. If in some way the company had created a more consistent way to reward and incentives sales, motivation for making these sales would have been more consistent instead of constantly going up and down depending on if there were actual incentives or not. The mission statement and vision of a company should be the driving force behind everything the company creates, sells, manages and produces. One of the greatest indicators for when a company culture does not reflect its mission statement is the employee retention rate. In a Harvard Business study, they looked at different factors such as work ethic, environment, and job satisfaction. In the study they found that even if someone is dissatisfied with their job, if the compensation is high enough they will stay at the company until and unless it affects their mental health.
