PHY 2054 Virtual Lab – Capacitance Name: Yael Faroud 1.
Go to the University of Colorado physics simulations web page. 2.
Scroll down to “Capacitor Lab: Basics,” click on that, then choose the “capacitance” box. 3.
Make the battery voltage 1.5V and keep the plate separation 6.0mm. 4.
Change the plate area to complete the following table: Area (mm

) Capacitance (pF) 200 0.30pF 250 0.37pF 300 0.44pF 350 0.52pF 400 0.59pF 5.
Plot these points on a graph with capacitance on the vertical axis and area on the horizontal axis then draw the best fit line for those points. Use the Draw feature in Word. Add in the tick marks and numbers for the vertical axis. Be sure to use a linear scale. 6.
Return the plate area to 200mm
