Show all the steps including formulas, calculations and Units to receive full credit. There are 2 questions. After grading, the score will be scaled down to a total of 3 points. Question 1: A program with 650 M instructions is run on two different processors, CPU1 and CPU2 with the following specifications: CPU1 specifications: 4.8 GHz clock and a CPI of 1.6 CPU2 specifications: 5.4 GHz clock and a CPI of 1.5 (a) How fast is CPU1 when compared to CPU2 while executing the above program? (5 points) (b) A designer decides to reduce the execution time of the program by 15%, by modifying the ISA such that the average CPI is increased by 20%. But this requires a change in the clock rate. What clock rate is required on each of the CPUs to achieve this? (15 points) Question 2: The hardware implementation of a program uses different classes of instructions as shown in the Table below. This program is run on a Processor which has a clock rate 5.8 GHz. a. What is the CPI (cycles per instruction) for the program? (5 points) b. What is the performance of the Processor? (5 points) Instruction Class ALU (A) Unconditional Branch (B) Conditional Branch (C) Data transfer (D) CPI 1 2 3 4 Instruction Count 5 3 4 2
