Materials & Tools Required : 10’-Long 3/4" (21) PVC Conduit Wet Rags 3/4" (21) PVC Straps Hacksaws 3/4" (21) PVC Connectors Diagonal Cutters 3/4" (21) PVC Couplings PVC Heat Oven Electrical Boxes Heat Gun Hacksaw PVC Cement (glue) NOTE: Do not install any improper or damaged components. Wiring must be performed to meet current electrical code requirements. Installation Instructions : Review all components at your workstation and ensure they are installed correctly. Using a 5’ length of ¾” (21) PVC. Heat pipe to the point that it bends easily at the point where you will bend the 90°. Perform a 90° bend. Perform a box offset bend. Securely glue a 3/4" PVC connector to the pipe (on the box offset side) Have instructor review finished bends. Answer all questions for this lab listed below.
Page 2 of 2 Questions : State the CEC Rule number if the code book is used. 1. What 2 items are required to join two separate pieces of rigid PVC conduit together? According to Rule 12-1112 1) of CEC, adapters and couplings are required to join two separate pieces of rigid PVC conduit together. 2. What personal hazard is present when field bending rigid PVC conduit? Rule 12-1108 (Appendix B) states that open flame should not be used when bending PVC conduit. 3. When the expansion of a rigid PVC raceway due to temperature exceeds 45 mm, what do you need to install in your raceway? According to Rule 12-1118 of CEC, at least one expansion joint shall be installed in a rigid PVC conduit. 4. Under normal conditions, what is the maximum temperature rigid PVC conduit can be subjected to? Rule 12-1104 1) states that the maximum temperature for rigid PVC is 75 degrees Celsius. 5. For trade size 16 rigid PVC conduit, what is maximum spacing of the points of conduit supports? Rule 12-1114 1) a) states that the maximum spacing is 750 mm for size 16 rigid PVC conduit.
