Materials & Tools Required : #14/2 NMD90 Cable (Romex) Linesmen Pliers 120 Volt 15A Receptables Screwdrivers (Various) 120 Volt 15A Single Pole Switches Needle-nose Pliers Device Boxes Wire Strippers Lamp Holder NOTE: Do not install any improper or damaged components. Wiring must be performed to meet current electrical code requirements. Installation Instructions : Class review of hand tool kits and proper safety. Demonstrate correct technique for stripping wire. Terminate stripped wire on switch, receptacle and lamp holder. Have instructor review finished connections. Answer all questions for this lab listed below.
Page 2 of 3 Questions : State the CEC rule number if the code book is used. 1. List three important points when stripping and terminating NMSC Firstly, wear proper safety gear, such as safety gloves and safety glasses, for protection, and ensure the circuit connection is off. Secondly, remove the insulation approximately 1 inch and try not to damage the conductor, and ensure not to include the insulation while connecting to the screw. Lastly, the conductor that goes into the junction box should be 6 inches or 150 mm. 2. What do you think is the most important wire in this cable and why? E very wire has its own importance in completing the circuit. However, Bond wire (which is connected to grounding wire) Plays crucial role by creating shortest path for faulty current and protect the device and from the shock as well. 3. Can the cable used in this lab (NMD) be used outdoor? The cable used in this lab cannot be used outdoor because of various factors like temperature, moisture, and other environmental factors. According to CEC Rule 12-504. 4. Where would one find the rating of NMSC? We can find the rating of NMSC wire on the Wire and its packaging case. 5. What color screw on the receptacle is used for the black, white and bare wires? Gold color screw is used for the black wire (hot wire) whereas silver color screw is used for the white wire (neutral wire) and green color screw is used for the bare wire (bond wire).
