The theme of the story is about making wise decisions and the importance of hard work and planning. The style of storytelling is vivid and detailed while also remaining straightforward for younger readers. The Grasshopper and the Ants is a timeless fable that teaches children an important lesson about taking responsibility for their actions. With engaging characters and a thought- provoking plot, the book serves as a reminder to never forget that all good things come with hard work. strong meaning, as it highlights the consequences of not heeding wise counsel. This lesson has stuck with me throughout my life as a reminder of how crucial it is to pay attention to and heed the counsel of knowledgeable people. I have personally witnessed the difference between paying attention to sound advice and not listening. I tend to make bad judgments when I make plans without considering the counsel of those I trust. However, I find that when I give other, more knowledgeable individuals some thought, I wind up making far better decisions. The Grasshopper and the Ants is an excellent reminder that it pays to listen to wise advice. This line has always stayed close to my heart, and it's a lesson I remember every time I face the temptation of deciding without considering the advice of others. As Pinkney said through this line, "Why didn’t I listen to the ants’ advice?" (pg. 24). Evaluation: The Grasshopper & the Ants by Jerry Pinkney is an amazing book that uses beautiful illustrations and captivating storytelling to bring Aesop’s familiar fable to life. While I was reading the book, I found myself completely captivated by the emotionally charged illustrations that feature bold colors and unique perspectives to depict the story. Pinkney’s illustrations masterfully capture the personalities of all the characters, adding to the rich depth of the story.
