Path of Light Yoga Studio Case Study
1.
Based on the site map of the Path of Light Yoga website, the site organization is hierarchical. Hierarchical site organization is the most commonly used structure for websites, especially for professional or commercial use. In hierarchical site organization, there is a well-defined home page that filters down to major subgroups of pages to which could have its own further subgroups. This organization
style is the most appropriate for the Path of Light Yoga website as it allows the content to be strategically separated between important sections while still being easily navigable between pages. 2.
After reviewing the Path of Light Yoga website against the Web Design Best Practices
Checklist, there are practices that are working well and some that could use improvement. Three design practices that have been well implemented are:
1.
Main navigation links are clearly and consistently labeled
2.
Use of color and graphics enhances rather than detracts from the site
3.
Writing techniques for the Web are used: headings, bullet points, brief paragraphs, and so on
Three design practices that could be implemented in a better way are:
1.
All navigation hyperlinks work – At this point in time, the ‘Contact’ link in the navigation list does not work.
2.
Navigation aids are used – This website does not have some navigation aids such as ‘skip to content link’ that could improve the accessibility of the site.
3.
Timeliness: The date of the last revision and/or copyright date is accurate – While it’s arguable that this website was just created, it does list 2020 in the footer as the copyright date. I think a ‘last updated’ date could go a long way to ensure the information is current and recently refreshed.
Other improvements I would make to the website would likely be centered on their schedule page. The unordered schedule list is straight-forward and easy to read, but I would also look to add a calendar of some sort to allow for users to look at a certain day
or week to view classes and availability. This would also allow the business to update any closings, cancelled classes or changes to the schedule that deviates from their listed

classes as needed for closings, cancellations or any other change to the schedule. I would also likely add some contact information to the header – possibly a phone number somewhere to be easily identifiable on any page throughout the website.
