Thirteen Sense Final Exam
1. Discuss Sal's answer to Domingo wanting them to go to Mexico and how Domingo reacted to it.
Sal proposed that it would be wise to remain in their current location and focus on finding a way back to their hometown. He emphasized the importance of being realistic, explaining that reaching Mexico would require more than just a few days. Sal also reminded Domingo that their financial resources were depleted, necessitating caution with their limited funds. Sal said that he could not go because he had to "keep a promise to Mama," and that he had already told Mama that he would go to the Pacific Coast. Domingo did not respond well to Sal's answer, becoming angered by it. He accused Sal of lacking faith and pointed out that it was Sal who initially suggested leaving. Domingo argued that staying put could lead to their arrest or worse, expressing desperation to escape their current situation. Frustrated by Sal's apparent lack of optimism, Domingo accused him of giving up, prompting a defensive response from Sal. Domingo's disappointment and frustration with Sal's refusal were evident. He contended that Sal was abandoning their people and labeled him a coward for not going. Domingo protested that Sal
had a duty to assist the people of Mexico, accusing him of selfishness for refusing.
2. Discuss why Father Ryan mentions wine to Lupe. Father Ryan brings up the topic of wine to Lupe as a means to elucidate the concept of "transubstantiation." This doctrine in Catholicism holds that during the Eucharist, the bread and wine transform, becoming the actual body and blood of Jesus Christ. Father Ryan's intention is for Lupe to grasp that the wine symbolizes Jesus' blood, which was shed for the redemption of humanity's sins. By drawing a parallel between the wine and Jesus' blood, he underscores the significance of the sacrament, signifying Jesus' sacrifice and resurrection. He hopes that Lupe will comprehend the profound magnitude of that selfless act and the hope it instills within the Christian faith.

Sheriff Palmer assures Sal that Archie was a remarkable individual who had endured numerous hardships throughout his life. These experiences had caused him to become embittered and angry. However, beneath his tough exterior, Archie harbored a compassionate and caring nature, consistently looking after his loved ones. The sheriff further reveals that Archie held a deep faith in God and firmly believed that justice would ultimately prevail. 4. Discuss why the police are looking for Kenny White and how Sal reacted to the situation.
The police are searching for Kenny because they suspect his involvement in a murder case. During this period, another individual known to Kenny, a girl named Sarah, is tragically killed. This occurrence prompts the police to investigate Kenny as a potential suspect. Sal is taken aback and deeply concerned by these developments. He fears that Kenny may be apprehended by
the police. In response, Sal resolves to provide whatever assistance he can to support Kenny. He takes on the responsibility of safeguarding Kenny, even going so far as offering to testify in his defense if necessary. Sal strongly advises Kenny to seek legal counsel and avoid any further involvement with law enforcement. By supporting and protecting Kenny, Sal not only exhibits his loyalty but also safeguards his moral character and principles.
