and Consequences of Prisoner Reentry

prisoner-reentry-0
This monograph describes the process whereby individuals released from prison reenter their home communities, the challenges for successful reentry, and the consequences that can accompany reentry. The main idea is to bring forward issues that are at the foundation of the criminal justice philosophy and to highlight the instances where there can be improvements to the reintegration process of prisoners that can lead to better and long-lasting results. This supports my argument because it shows that there exist steps that can be taken by the criminal justice system and the corrections institutions to ensure the reentry process is effective. If these measures are implemented correctly, recidivism rates are going to continue to decrease.
This source is credible based on a C.R.A.A.P.O. score of 42, where relevance, accuracy, authority, purpose, and objectivity were the highest scores. It supports one of my key points where this responsibility of making changes ultimately falls on policy and lawmakers alongside the criminal justice professionals to bring measures forward in order to improve the programs that already exist and to create better programs that benefit the released prisoners. Successful reintegration Ultimately has a positive impact on the community as a whole.

Duwe, G., & Henry-Nickie, M. (2021, April). A better path forward for criminal justice: Training and employment for correctional populations
. Brookings. https://www.brookings.edu/research/a-better-path-forward-for-criminal-justice-training-and-
employment-for-correctional-populations/
The main point of this source is that people involved in the correctional system in the U.S. tend to be undereducated and underemployed compared to the general population. It explains that Roughly two-fifths of the people entering prison do not have a high school degree or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) credential, a rate which is three times higher than for adults in the U.S. The disparity for postsecondary education is even more significant, where the rate at which adults have an associate's degree or more is four times higher than what has been observed for prisoners. This supports my argument that people are leaving prison unprepared for integration into society. This source explores possible solutions to this issue and provides short, mid, and long-term reforms that can be introduced in order to correct the education problems of the incarcerated population. This source is credible based on a C.R.A.A.P.O. score of 38, where relevance, accuracy and authority were the highest scores. This source supports one of my critical points because education programs within the correctional facilities are lacking, if non-existent, and this results in a direct disadvantage to the recently released population who has to deal with the stigma of being ex-convicts in addition to the disadvantage of not having an education. These factors are great contributors to recidivism because once released, the inability to meet basic requirements for legitimate employment leads back to a path of very restricted options where falling back into crime is often the easiest way to survive. This shows that for genuine improvement and change,
