A. Given handout with selected poem, students will answer questions about the theme of the poem, provide quotes and identify symbols within the poem scoring at least 14/19 on assignment based on answer key.
Formative assessments are tools used by teachers to gauge student progress. Formative assessment results can provide insight into whether or not students have been receptive to lessons. Teachers can apply formative assessment results to decide whether or not their teaching has been effective and if students are comprehending the material. Based upon the results proper adjustments to the lesson can be made to fit student individual needs. B. I would assign exit tickets as a form of formative assessment in order to achieve the objective mentioned in Part A. On the exit ticket, I would have students identify the theme, a quote and a symbol from a sample poem to ensure comprehension of the lesson. B1. I would take a small group approach to collect the data for the objective mentioned in part A. I would review the vocabulary (theme, symbol, quote) and make sure the students understood the meaning of those vocabulary words. Once I felt that my students mastered the meanings of these words, we would work on applying those meaning and finding examples of them in poems.i would assign tasks for them to complete on their own or with a partner. I would collect their exit ticket at the end of the lesson. B2. I would be able to provide specific feedback to students about their performance on the formative assessment because each student would return their own individual exit ticket. I can use their responses to see exactly where each student needs assistance or is proficient. I would let all of my students know I was proud of their progress, know matter how small. I would let them know there was still time for improvement while using positive gestures. B2a. Providing feedback to students allows them to gain insight on where they need to improve. Knowing where they need to improve means we can work together to develop a strategy to help them do so. We can focus on areas of concern and practice so that they not only will master these topics but build confidence.
