EGS 4038/6039 - ENGINEERING LEADERSHIP NAME: NICOLÁS BRAVO
INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT NO.: 2 – REFLECTING ON LEADERS AND LEADERSHIP BEHAVIOURS
======================================================================
Part 1:
Think about who you identify with as a true leader (not necessarily as an engineering leader). Briefly describe the context of their leadership role and your connection to the leader…it’s not necessary to identify the full name of the leader if you’d prefer that remain anonymous.
Now briefly summarize the actions and behaviors that you feel support your belief that the individual is an effective leader.
The person I identify with as a true leader is my mother. At home, she is the one that always supports and motivates the rest of the family no matter how difficult the situation is. She is always looking for the common good of the family, works very hard and guides us to provide direction. She is truly an inspiration and a motivation for the rest of my family.
She has shown she is an effective leader because she demonstrates integrity and honesty, she has effective communication when expressing herself and she makes thoughtful decisions considering the well-being of the family as a whole. Part 2:
Think of a time, in whatever context you have thus far (…present or past jobs or activities….personal or business scenario…with or without some official title that typically denotes a leadership role) when you feel you were “at your best” from a leadership perspective. Briefly summarize:
The scenario that was involved;
using bullet points or other designations, discuss at least 3 specific things you did as the leader
....
considering your approach, actions, and results….that cumulatively caused this experience to be at the top of your current experience base;
using bullet points or other designations, discuss 2 to 3 key leadership lessons
learned from this leadership experience

It was my last season in that team before moving out, and we were a total of 25 players. I have great memories of that year because I started feeling as a leader for the first time, and I demonstrated qualities like:
Decision-Making. Besides the coach’s orders, as a captain I had to make decisions while we were in the field. There were times were I had to decide between some specific tactics we had on our team. Sometimes it ended up well and others not.
Accountability. I had to take responsibility for both successes and defaults. Whenever our coach was mad at us after an important defeat, I had to give a step forward and take the blame and be responsible for what the players had done. It was tough the first times, but then I realized I was learning a lot from that experiences, which help me to understand what the coach really wanted and be a better team.
Unity and team building. As a captain, I had a crucial role in fostering team unity. I remember that after the first 3 months we had several consecutive defeats, and I organized a dinner with all of the players in order to encourage unity and improve the relationships between us. After that, we started winning most of our matches and I was really proud.
I learned a lot while being the captain and it was a huge honor for me. Some of the lessons I learned were:
