What technology tools are available for teaching literacy?
“Technology to Literacy, A Resource for K-8 Teachers” chapter 2
describes over five technology tools that is available for teaching literacy. Productivity tools is a software that can improve writing and vocabulary development. Students can use this tool to type a paper and will help them to edit their paper. Visualization and multimedia tools is combine of one media type that allow a creation of slides with text, photos, audio, video, and books. Multimedia helps
teachers to engage and provide students with multiple learning in all subjects. Internet and communication allow students to interconnect around the world. Students can use the internet
for literacy to give students the opportunity to research on a project. Education software a computer software to support teaching, writing, and learning. Students can write a draft, revise,

For example, emerging tools give teachers the opportunity to integrate technology even if a student has an IEP. When teacher work together and put their ideas together, they can develop skills to make students successful with the uses of technology. (Anderson, Grant, and Speck)
Online Readings
What are some of the tech tools that have be used successfully to enhance literacy instruction?
Reading the “
Classroom-Tested Tech Tools Used to Boost Literacy by Katie Ash”, the technology tools that are used to teach students literacy skills in this article are webcams, podcast, and photo licensed under creative commons, audiobooks, PowerPoint presentation, blogs, and internet and Web 2.0 tools. According to the article, webcams allow students to improve their reading and comprehension skills so they can see themselves and identify their mistakes. When students create their own podcast, it allow them to listen and edit their mistakes. Audio recorders a great tool to use for students who don’t have computers at home. Teachers can use audio recorders to have students listen to their sight words and/or see their sight words visible. While watching the audio on DVD player on their TV. They can also listen to audiobook to help built their fluency and comprehension skills. Another thing this article Jeffrey
Wilhelm said, “If you’re not teaching with [technology], you’re not only not preparing the kids for the future, you’re not preparing them for the present moment.” Meanwhile, these tools help not only students but also teachers as well, to integrate technology into their curriculum. The tools mentioned above are tools that’s successful to enhance literacy instruction. (Ash 2012) Page 1

Which tools that are presented in the video could you use in your classroom?
While watching the video “
Every Teacher A Literacy Teacher Using Technology Tools from the Teaching Speaks Volumes YouTube channel.” The video
explained how teachers could use one or more of seven different technology tools in their classroom. The technology tools she mentions were subtext, Actively Learn, Ether Pad, Hemingway App, Story Bird, Got Brainy, and Newsela. The tool that I would use in my classroom is Newsela. The reason why I choose Newsela because it’s used to teach students literacy skills reading and writing. It has most of the subjects taught in school. This tool can be differential instructions based on each students reading level. The assignments you assign to the students can also applied to their grade level. If you have a child with an IEP and need, stories and/or questions read to them. You can make sure that students get the services he/she needs by having the stories or articles read to them. This is why I choose this tool to use in my classroom. (Teaching Speaks Volumes YouTube channel)
