Name: Anna Reid Baer
This course-long portfolio, developed over multiple weeks, will give you the opportunity to engage with a particular research topic while utilizing the various steps of the inquiry process. Once you have completed each week of the project, you will compile each step
from Weeks 2-6 into this template and submit it in the link named “Inquiry Portfolio Project Final Submission”. Remember that you are compiling previous work here, and failure to complete each step may result in failure for the assignment. Week Two
Topic Selection
Original Submission
: Learning Styles in Education
Now that I know what I know, this is what I would change if I were to start creating my topic
: I would narrow down this topic a little bit more and focus on a specific learning style or go into depth about how each learning style effects education. I would be more specific to tighten the parameters of research and to find more valuable sources.
Week Three
Development of Research Question
Original Submission
:
What are the different learning styles in education and why is it important for teachers to strategically implement each type in everyday instruction in the classroom?
Now that I know what I know, this is what I would change if I were to develop my research question
: Same with my topic selection,
I would narrow this down more tighten up the research parameters. I did eventually specify this question more to be more specific because I found it difficult to find sources with a broad subject. Now I know that specificity is key for research.

Research Log Template – Week 4
Take notes as you search to help you remember which databases, keywords, and strategies worked the best. Your log should show evidence of searching for various types of resources, including books and scholarly articles.

For my first search, I went to the JFL catalog and typed in a general search (learning styles) and then narrowed my results down to specifically peer-reveiwed articles. Since this search was a starting point, the results were very broad, and they did not all directly relate to my question.

For my second search, I went to the JFL catalog and typed in the general search (
visual, auditory, kinesthetic, education) and narrowed
my results to peer-reviewed articles. This search was still very broad;
however, most results were peer-reviewed, used reliable sources, and covered a part of my research question regarding the learning styles.

For my third search, I stayed on the previous search and used filters to narrow down my search. I filtered my results to have an education discipline, published in the last 5 years, and peer reviewed. My results were narrowed more towards my research question about learning styles, but the results were similar from the last search.

For my fourth search, I changed my keywords in my search to (kinesthetic, learning, student success, classroom
) and filtered my results to an education discipline and education and educational

articles published in the last 5 years. In this search, my first result is an article relating directly to my research question about learning styles and strategically implementing them in the classroom. 11/8/22

For my fifth search, I went to ProQuest and narrowed my search to strictly peer-reviewed books and used keywords (teaching learning styles)
for my search to focus more on the teaching of learning styles aspect instead of what they are. Unfortunately, there were not many results that related directly to my research question, but I found one specifically about teaching methods and pedagogical models. Date

For my sixth search, I went to ProQuest and narrowed my search to strictly peer-reviewed books and typed in the general search more specific keywords (learning styles, teaching, classroom, student) to narrow down my results to fit my specific question. One of my results is a handbook for teachers on pedagogical models in teaching and learning in education which directly fits into my research question. 11/8/22

For my seventh search, I stayed on the previous search with keywords and added filters to narrow it down more. I filtered my results to have a cognitive style subject, peer reviewed, and published
in the last 5 years. This narrowed my search to three sources that all directly relate to my research question about teaching different learning styles in education and a variety of strategies for teachers. 11/8/22
For my eighth search, my search was strictly narrowed down to peer-
reviewed books, and I changed my keywords in my search
