Savanna Robbins Brother Poole ENG 356 24 October 2023 What do you think makes graphic novels a good choice for young adult readers? I think a graphic novel is a good choice for young adult readers because I think they like that there are pictures. I think graphic novels overall are easy to read than other books. Graphic novels add extra support kids need to help them get through the text especially if the children aren’t good at reading. It can be good for kids to have pictures in books because it helps them visualize what is happening in the story. Another reason I think it is good for kids to read graphic novels are because they teach fundamental reading skills. Often times graphic novels have bigger vocabulary words because there are less words. Because of these students are learning higher level words while reading a book with fewer words. They are also learning how to read within different contexts and formats. Another reason I think the novels are good for kids because the images in the book work alongside of the texts which helps with comprehension. Kids often struggle less with comprehension because the pictures help paint the story and help tell it along with the words. I think often times children are more motivated to read graphic novels because they like to see the pictures along with reading the book. Often times it paints a better picture in the children’s minds, and they are able to visualize the culture and picture what is happening in the story more clearly and they can put names to faces. Again, this is the way that students comprehend the book and are able to picture the story more clearly. Students like this because it also gives them something to look at.
