Beaty 1 Fletch Ch.8 Abigail Beaty Park University Edu 300 Writing in Education Professor Jay Niceswanger September 17, 2023 In Chapter Eight of the Fletcher book, I learned about the four types of endings. The different types of endings I learned about were the circular ending, the poignant ending, the ironic ending, and the ambiguous ending. I liked reading about each ending and learning about the differences between all of them. I think they all are unique. My favorite ending I read about was the ironic ending. The ironic ending is a highly sophisticated technique. In the circular ending, the reader encounters the ending-as-beginning but not with a sense of “This is redundant read this earlier”. The Poignant ending leaves a sharp emotional residue that stays with the reader when the book is done. Next, the ambiguous ending is when it challenges the reader to take a more active stance toward the book, to imbue the story with the reader’s own personal meanings. It will also require students to defend their own interpretations. Overall, I really enjoyed reading about the different endings in chapter eight of Fletcher’s book.
Beaty 2 My ending for the narrative I am writing will be the poignant ending. I want my ending to leave a sharp emotional residue that stays with my reader when the narrative is finished. I think this will be the best ending because it will leave my readers with some emotion which is my goal for the narrative. I think it is essential to have a strong ending so you will leave your readers with some type of emotion in the book. I think this ending is my favorite ending I learned about in chapter eight.
