Emily Ventura 10/26/2022 Eng 102 Project 1 Research Kern Stray Animals Primary Research: The Stakeholders for my Project are The Bakersfield Pet food Pantry, Kern County Animal Shelter, and the Bakersfield Stray Rescue. I decided to interview for my primary research. Interview Questions: 1. Are strays worth saving? 2. Do you believe your body is capable of providing several animals with everyday care? 3. Does it upset you that there are many strays? 4. Do you get easily attached when you see a stray struggling? 5. When doing this does it fulfill the need to help these strays? Secondary Research: 1. (BURGER, 2022) In Kern County Bakersfield, California, over a thousand animals are available for adoption. Local rescue organizations help to relieve the municipal shelters' overcrowding. One less dog or cat is euthanized for every animal in the care of a rescue. Adopting an animal will not solve the overcrowding problem, but it will help one. Mullins: It's not their responsibility to pass judgment on them. The job is to help the animals and ensure that they have a better life. Adopt if you are willing to devote time, thought, and commitment. MEOW Co.'s Sarah Tietjens Every year, Meow Co. adopts out hundreds of kittens and cats. "It's like adopting a family member," said Sarah Tietjens of MEOW Co., a kitten and cat adoption service. This is a very helpful resource for my claim because it has many opinions and advice for the new pet owners. It also has additional information about being a rescuer and helping the strays. 2. (Dog | California | H.A.L.T. Dog Rescue (Helping Animals Live Tomorrow), n.d.) A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization called H.A.L.T. Rescue was founded in Bakersfield, California. They are an animal rescue with lofty goals that include saving abandoned dogs and cats, giving them medical care, and, most importantly, placing them in loving homes. They recognized the need to act and devise a solution to assist the almost 20,000 dogs and cats that are put to death each year in Kern County. Friends and volunteers who help the organization support our vision. They have a deep conviction that we should love, care for, and respect animals. They work hard to provide for the animals at county shelters who cannot be adopted. Prior to adoption, all rescue animals are neutered or spayed, have all of their vaccines, and have microchips. This is evidence that our community cares about these animals and creates their own groups to help assist them. 3. (smorgen@bakersfield.com, 2021)
The shelter had 225 canines on Wednesday in a space meant to hold 218. The number of impounds at the Bakersfield Animal Control Department has not significantly increased. Shelter managers are concerned that they might soon run out of room. On Wednesday, Johnson consoled a border collie mix that had been thrown over the fence the night before the Animal Care Center's opening. She remarked, "It breaks my heart more for the elderly dogs since they are accustomed to having homes and families of their own." The drop-offs don't appear to be slowing down any time soon. The staff at Bakersfield Animal Care Center is concerned that the shelter's excellent live release statistics may be in peril due to overcrowding. The county shelter normally sees more dogs in June. This article supports my claims as well. There is not much room left for more strays that owners throw out. It's sad to see senior dogs suffering. Preliminary Thesis: Pet owners may stop providing food or care for their animals and leave them on the streets to fend for themselves. They do similarly when their animal becomes unwell and they are unable to pay for its medical care. Sometimes, pet owners just let their animals roam outside. The animals wander off on their own as a result of these reasons. The number of stray animals on the streets rises as a result of unneutered animals reproducing. Due to pet owners' lack of dedication, the belief that animals are disposable, the misconception that the Humane Society or animal shelters can care for all unwanted animals, and the failure of the pet owner, the number of homeless animals has grown.
