Social media use has increased significantly, but there are now worries that it could have a harmful impact on our relationships, mental health, and general wellbeing. This article will investigate the claim that social media is bad for us by weighing the arguments and supporting data from both sides of the argument. The way we connect with one another, share information, and communicate has been completely transformed by social media. Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, which have billions of users worldwide, have impacted how we communicate with the outside world and one another in modern society. However, as social media use has grown, worries have been raised regarding its possible detrimental effects on our mental health, interpersonal connections, and general wellbeing. Social media can be damaging, causing feelings of worry, melancholy, and loneliness as well as a loss in face-to-face communication and the quality of relationships, according to several experts and researchers. Additionally, the expansion of social media has been linked to the dissemination of false information, the amplification of hate speech and other toxic behaviors, and the degradation of online privacy and security. We could unknowingly expose ourselves to a variety of dangers and damages as we spend more and more time on social media platforms, from cyberbullying and harassment to the manipulation of our political views and beliefs. Through giving a platform to underrepresented voices and allowing us to communicate with others by sharing our experiences and perspectives, social media can be a source of inspiration, connection, and support. Additionally, social media may be a potent tool for political participation and social activism, empowering people and communities to advocate for change and raise awareness of pressing concerns. On the one hand, using social media can cause worry, anxiety, and other unfavorable feelings. In one study, it was discovered that excessive social media use might cause emotions of FOMO (fear of missing out), loneliness, and low self-esteem as users compare themselves to others. A second factor that contributes to the aggravation of mental health problems is the fact that social media may serve as a breeding ground for toxic behavior such as cyberbullying and online

harassment. The quality of relationships and face-to-face communication have both been shown to suffer as a result of social media use. Higher levels of social media use were linked to poorer levels of social support and friendship satisfaction, according to a survey of college students. Research has also indicated that excessive social media use can have a negative impact on interpersonal interactions by reducing empathy and one's capacity to read others' feelings. Furthermore, social media has also been connected to a number of other detrimental consequences on our health, such as shortened attention spans, disturbed sleep habits, and even addiction. Social media's constant stimulation can make it difficult to concentrate and retain knowledge. It also increases the likelihood of distractions, which can have a detrimental effect on our performance and productivity. Additionally, the blue light that is released by our smartphones has the potential to interrupt our regular sleep patterns and promote weariness. Social media addiction is an increasing issue, especially among young people. According to research, teenagers used social media on average for 6 hours every day by 2016. A study done in 2017 explains that social media addiction in teenagers can cause sadness, suicide, stress as well as cyber bullying.
