I don’t have any knowledge about fiber optic cables being used to detect earthquakes, but I do know that they are underground because they do provide me with Wi-Fi as well what I would like to know more about this subject is how fiber optic cables can accurately detect earthquakes and how it measures earthquakes. Discuss the value of the scientific research presented in your selected news story for contemporary society. The value of the scientific research presented is important because this a good way and another source of detecting earthquakes and by the cables measuring them it is a way to provide advanced warnings and details on why it started to begin with which can be beneficial to us. "If we can get broader coverage to measure seismic activity, we can revolutionize how we study earthquakes and provide more advance warning," says Zhan. "Though we cannot predict earthquakes, distributed acoustic sensing will lead to a better understanding of the details underlying how the earth ruptures." 1
