SKIL-6065 P4
What is scholarly writing?
I believe scholarly writing is similar to detective work.
It involves identifying a problem or issue,
investigating the issue, gathering evidence and presenting the evidence in a logical manner.
Thinking of yourself as a scholar, what is one area you feel confident in? What is a skill you would like to
improve?
I am confident in my abilities to investigate and gather information.
Where I need to improve is
presenting my information as a professional scholar.
Scholarly writing is a unique form of writing which
requires every bit of information to be verified, but also ensuring you are not plagiarizing the
information.
I have noticed in my career that many first responder professions often speak in jargon or
acronyms.
Another area I need to work on is ensuring I express the meaning of those acronyms as a
scholar and not use jargon.
I look forward to learning from everyone during this course.
