Suppose you were in a classroom where this misinterpretation occurred.
A Deaf professor signed to a non-signing student,
“You are smarter than you think!”
And the interpreter said:
“You are smarter than I thought!”

I would quickly and politely correct the mistake. Unnecessary mistakes should be
corrected.
