A Sign of Respect - Part 2 Unit 10 - Exercise 10c by Thomas K. Holcomb and Anna Mindess, Copyright © 2017 Eye2Eye Productions Name: Kierra Scott Suppose you were in a classroom where this misinterpretation occurred. A Deaf professor signed to a non-signing student, “You are smarter than you think!” And the interpreter said: “You are smarter than I thought!” Answer the questions below with regard to this situation. Please type your responses. Then save and submit to your instructor per his or her instructions. Question 1 of 4 What would you do if you were working as the other interpreter on the team? I would quickly and politely correct the mistake. Unnecessary mistakes should be corrected. Question 2 of 4 What would you do as a signing classmate to the non-signing student? I would correct the mistake by telling the non-signing student what was actually signed. Question 3 of 4 What would you do as an IPP student there to observe the work of the interpreters?
I would either get the correct information or personally communicate with the deaf professor. Question 4 of 4 What would you do as a visitor (and a close friend of the Deaf professor) sitting in the class? I would still politely correct the mistake.
