Albina Ruiz a successful social entrepreneur born in the Peruvian jungle, she was the
daughter of a farmer, she created a system that will help the city of Peru and many other
countries in Latin America. In 1983, she came to Lima, Peru, to continue her studies and pursue
an engineering degree. When she came to Lima, she was able to notice the large amount of trash
around the city, especially in the mountains. This caused concern for her so she started to think of
ways she could help this communities.
(Schwartz & Drayton, 2012).
She was able to study the scenario during her time in college and had a great deal of
attention on the issue. She observes that their main interests are pickers and recyclers. A little
tricycle truck was her first invention. She came up with the notion of using public camping to
attract collaborations. She spent the past 25 years creating Ciudad Saludable, NGO a non-profit
organization in Peru founded in 2002. Which goal is to create a model that will manage solid
waste to create an impact in sustainable development in the communities.
(Schwartz & Drayton,
2012).
Peru's local issue was the quantity of trash and waste that caused the neighborhood to
smell terrible. People in the neighborhoods had no interest in maintaining a clean environment.
Because they lacked resources and the effort to be convinced that there was a better option for
them, the majority of the residents of the town had little interest in picking up garbage. Albina
Ruiz is motivated to take the initiative to develop methods of aiding the community given all of
these considerations. She had the idea to create microenterprises with credit funds that would
help recycles to make new products with recycle products. Also she generated more employment
opportunities for the people in the community.
(Schwartz & Drayton, 2012).
The social factors that lead to this enterprise can be the social needs, in chapter 3 we learn
how social needs create a social entrepreneur to generate ideas and have a desire of creating a
way of help for example Albina Ruiz, social need was the environment conditions that were dirty
and unemployment in the poor areas
that can generate bad health conditions in a community.
Guo, C., & Bielefeld, W. (2014).
Social asses are another factor Albina Ruiz use assets to improve
the communities by establishing the non-profit organization ciudad saludable and the
microenterprises. She engage workers to persuade for better opportunities by generating a way of
fighting against the main problem. (
Guo, C., & Bielefeld, W. (2014).
In this case, the microenterprise was, a microenterprise is a small business with a low
number of workers that provides products and services to their community. In this case, poor
social workers such as recyclers and pickers are using money from Albina's social enterprise to
create new products. This would encourage people to be more innovative and take the initiative
to develop additional job possibilities in the community. Albina worked with the Peruvian
community and other Latin American nations to establish and develop his network.
Pattern recognition is another important factor. She used events to create new patterns
that will create innovation.
(Guo, C., & Bielefeld, W. (2014).
Some of the events she experiences
from example when she arrived at Peru lima, she saw the main social problem going out she state
that
These people had descriptive names but little dignity and almost
no income, and they were
living very hazardous lives in disease-infested surroundings”.
and she evaluated data and
gathered information. This helper to find an idea of how to create the social problem she wanted
to approach.
