Rowlands 1 Rebecca Rowlands GNED 400, Section A. Doctor MacKenzie 30 April 2021 Alignment Paper #6: Theological Literacy The Trinity is a controversial doctrine in Christianity. The Trinity is a concept in Christianity that explains why God is believed to be three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. According to the doctrine of the Trinity, all three are one God. The English word "Trinity" derives from the Latin word Trinitas, which means three. People are choosing sides in the Trinity debate, much as they do in any other conflict. Some argue that the Trinitarian doctrine of God is the right way to explain how He came to be, whilst others argue that this teaching is false. Others, on the other hand, suggest that since the Scriptures are very ambiguous on the topic, it is best to ignore it entirely. The ability to form Christian perspectives founded on the Scriptures, as well as a knowledge of how the church has evolved such concepts throughout history, is referred to as theological literacy. Individuals should use theology literacy to better understand controversies like the Trinity. Christians who do not believe in or comprehend the Trinity would contend that God cannot die, so why did Jesus die? Additionally, Jesus prayed often to his Father in heaven. Why was He praying to himself? Isaiah 55:8-9 can be used as a counterargument for Christians who believe in the Trinity, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.” This verse explains that God is omniscient and cannot be understood from a human perspective. Since the Bible has been
Rowlands 2 translated into over two thousand languages, biblical debates are generally never-ending. Many people claim that translations distorted the meaning of the original scripture. The study of God and His relationships to, reasons for, and function within the created world is known as theology. Literacy refers to the composition, study, or substance of literature, especially that which is valued for its aesthetic value. According to many Christians, Jesus preached from a theology that he produced himself. Every Christian, regardless of how traditional, has their own ideology, a way of framing and defending their religion. Individuals may research scripture to get a deeper interpretation of their own religious beliefs. Regardless of one's religion, the questions posed by theology may be compelling.
