Candidate’s Name: La’Dasha Frankmann Reading Assignment Main Principles Reflective Comments Log:#1 Immigration, Race, and Oppression Americans who came to the United States in search of a fresh start and the American dream encountered a harsh reality when they were not treated like citizens but rather as second-class aliens. Because of the harsh treatment they received from other "immigrants" in the United States because of their skin color, ethnicity, native customs, and religious beliefs, xenophobia developed among settlers. A person was not deemed to be Americanized until they gave up their original languages, customs, and traditions and lived in the country for a predetermined amount of time. To maintain oppression, this period would fluctuate according to skin tone or racial origin. In early American society, a person's skin tone would indicate whether they would be subjected to oppressive or privileged treatment. This was an example of race and social injustice. The socioeconomic challenges encountered by immigrants were exclusively related to their race, place of origin, and skin color. The way white Americans or British colonists treated them was This week's readings have caused me to reflect on immigration, racial injustice, and repressive injustices, all of which have contributed to the emotional and depressing experience of reading them. Arriving in the New World, immigrants anticipated to be welcomed and live out their American ideals; instead, they encountered racial division, social instability, and slavery. As the Bible says, "strive for holiness, without which no one will see the Lord," and for peace with everyone. Make sure that no one is denied God's grace; that no "root of bitterness" emerges and produces problems, leading to the defilement of many (New American Standard Bible, 2011, Hebrews 12:14–15). If colonists and settlers had adhered to God's precepts, do you think anything would have changed during the New World's emancipation? Since God considered all men and women as equals, the use of oppression, racial injustices, and social injustices against people of color or people from different ethnic backgrounds is the reason why there are so many race
EDUC 848 determined by the color of their skin. Due to their race, Native Americans, Asians, African Americans, Italians, and Jews have all suffered at the hands of American injustices. Started to assert their supremacy and classify newly arriving immigrants according to the color of their skin, which led to the development of racial injustice. According to Koppelman (2020), even if all immigrants to the US faced challenges and hostility, initially or later coming out as White proved to be a huge advantage. White America was able to control the lives and rights of everyone who was not deemed to be white by their standards thanks to this repressive advantage. issues in current American society. Galatians 3:28 of the New American Standard Version (1995) quotes the bible as saying, "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." "There is no such thing as a Jew or a Gentile, a slave or a free person, or a male or female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:28, New American Standard Version, 1995.
