3-2 Assignment: Writing Plan
In the article “Caring for your introvert: the habits and needs of a little-understood group.” author
Jonathan Rauch’s claim is to shine light and bring attention to introverts and what it means to be
an introvert. The author is trying to make us aware that we might have introverts around us,
whether they are some family members or even friends. The author’s purpose is to make us more
aware of the type of behavior and signs that show who is an introvert and how to properly care
for that person. Author Jonathan Rauch wants the audience to learn about introverts and how to
better interact with them. The author hopes to educate his audience with his article and hopes
people will become more aware of the signs of who is an introvert because you might never
know if any of your friends or loved ones might happen to be an introvert.
The key points within the text have stated that science has learned a great deal these past recent
years about the habits and requirements of introverts. Through brain scans it has also learned that
introverts process information differently from other people. The author explains that education

social butterflies, introverts tend to think carefully about what they are going to say before they
speak. For introverts, to be alone with their thoughts is as restorative as sleeping, it’s something

Author Jonathan Rauch’s primary audience targets people who are extroverts. The author is an

introverts and believes that introverts are misunderstood by society and. He’s wanting to shine a
light on this topic so people can become more aware of introverts and be more accepting of their
personalities and behavior. The author wants extroverts to become aware and well as more
sensitive to the struggles that introverts face every day. Extroverts find it hard to understand why
introverts are the way they are and have a hard time during social gatherings. With the
information in the article, the author hopes for his audience to leave with a better understanding
of an introvert’s behavior as well as how they think.
One of the choices that the author makes within his writing in order to connect more with his
target audience is that he acknowledged that he considers himself an introvert. Not only is he
backing up his claims with researching from professionals but he’s giving us a firsthand view by
being personal and telling from his own experience and how it feels to be an introvert. He’s
trying to show us how the mind of an introvert works. The authors choice to let his audience
know that he considers himself to be an introvert will help to really connect with his readers. It
will help to connect because they will be able to relate to him because some readers might be
feeling the same way as well.
The author's claim is strong and his writing effectively achieves his purpose. The author is giving
the audience not only his personal experience and feelings but also backing up his claims with
